About Camas Creek Wildlife Management Area

The Camas Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a 1,600-acre protected natural habitat located near Dubois in Clark County, southeastern Idaho. The area was established to preserve and enhance waterfowl habitat along Camas Creek and its surrounding wetlands, providing a critical breeding and migratory stopover site for numerous bird species. The WMA features wetlands, marshes, riparian zones, and open grasslands, creating a prime environment for waterfowl, including ducks and geese, as well as upland game birds such as sage grouse and pheasants. The creek and associated ponds support populations of fish like trout and bass, making it a popular spot for anglers. Visitors to the Camas Creek WMA can enjoy wildlife viewing, nature photography, and seasonal hunting in accordance with state regulations. The area’s trails and unpaved roads offer moderate hiking and birdwatching opportunities, especially during spring and fall migration periods. The surrounding landscape rests on the Camas Prairie, a high-elevation grassland known for its wide-open views and expansive skies. The Wildlife Management Area is managed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, which works to maintain the habitat integrity and facilitate public access while protecting sensitive wildlife populations. Hunting of waterfowl and upland birds is allowed during designated seasons, contributing to sustainable wildlife management practices. Camping is limited, so most visitors use nearby towns for lodging and day trips. The Camas Creek WMA appeals primarily to outdoor enthusiasts interested in quiet wildlife observation, photography, and low-impact recreation away from more heavily trafficked natural areas in Idaho.
